Who we are
Crafted for the
Journey
Travel Detail was founded to bring the centuries-old tradition of Turkish leather craftsmanship to the modern traveller — in products that are built to last a lifetime on the road.
Our Story
The founding of Travel Detail
We set out to answer a simple question: why do most travel accessories fail you exactly when you need them most?
Zipper pulls that snap under pressure. Stitching that unravels after a dozen flights. Handles that crack in the humidity of a Thai summer. We had experienced it all, and we knew it was not an accident — it was a consequence of choosing material cost over material quality.
Travel Detail was built on a different conviction: that genuine leather, worked by skilled artisans using traditional Turkish techniques, produces travel accessories that do not just survive the journey — they improve with it. Every scratch becomes part of the story. Every trip leaves a mark that adds character rather than announcing failure.
We source exclusively from Turkish leather workshops that have refined their craft across generations. We work with artisans who regard their work as a form of expression, not just production. The result is a product line built on the understanding that a traveller’s accessories should be as dependable as the traveller themselves.
Our mission
To offer travellers in Belgium, the Netherlands, and across Europe leather travel accessories that are genuinely built to last — crafted with skill, sourced with care, and backed by a guarantee we are proud to stand behind.
Our values
Honesty about materials and methods. Respect for the artisans who make our products. Transparency with our customers about where, how, and by whom every item is made.
Turkish Leather Craft
Turkey has one of the world’s longest continuous traditions of leather working — a craft refined over centuries in Istanbul, Izmir, and across Anatolia. Travel Detail is grounded in this heritage.
The Turkish leather industry combines ancient tanning traditions with modern techniques, producing leather that is recognised globally for its texture, durability, and depth of character. Turkish artisans are trained in hand-stitching, edge-finishing, and shaping techniques that cannot be replicated by mass-production machinery. It is this combination of traditional knowledge and skilled hands that defines every Travel Detail product.
Full-grain leather
The strongest cut
Full-grain leather retains the complete outer layer of the hide, giving it the highest tensile strength and natural resistance to moisture and abrasion. It develops a rich patina over time that corrected-grain or bonded leathers simply cannot replicate.
Hand-finished edges
Detail that lasts
Every edge on a Travel Detail product is burnished and sealed by hand. This labour-intensive process — standard practice among Turkish artisan workshops — prevents delamination and fraying at stress points over years of use.
Saddle-stitch technique
Built not to unravel
Unlike machine lock-stitching, saddle-stitching uses two needles and a single continuous thread. If a stitch breaks, the seam does not unravel. This traditional technique has been used for centuries because there is nothing more reliable for items that are used every day.
Why Turkey?
Turkey’s leather industry spans centuries of continuous practice. Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar has sold leather goods since 1455. Modern Turkish workshops combine this heritage with contemporary design sensibility, producing goods that serve a global market without sacrificing the craft quality that defines the best of the tradition. Sourcing from Turkey also means our products enter the EU under the EU–Turkey Customs Union, arriving at your door without import duty in most cases.
Built for Travellers
Every Travel Detail product is designed around the reality of travel — not the aspirational image of it. Real journeys mean irregular handling, diverse climates, and daily use. Our products are built accordingly.
Design philosophy
Functional layouts designed by people who actually travel frequently
Proportions suited to carry-on requirements across European and international airlines
Hardware chosen for weather resistance and longevity over aesthetic novelty
Internal organisation that reduces unpacking time at security and at the hotel
Practical features
YKK or equivalent premium zippers on all closures — rated for tens of thousands of cycles
Reinforced base panels on all bags to withstand airport and overhead locker handling
RFID-shielded card slots in relevant products
All products treated with a protective leather conditioner before dispatch
Designed around real travel
We test every product design across a range of travel scenarios before it enters our collection. If a prototype doesn’t hold up to the demands of a genuine trip — checked luggage, overhead lockers, rain, dry heat, daily opening and closing — it does not become a Travel Detail product. This is not a marketing promise. It is why our product line is focused and selective rather than broad and variable.
Quality & Durability
Durability is not an add-on at Travel Detail. It is the founding principle. We choose materials, hardware, and techniques based on how they perform after years of use — not how they look on a product page.
Materials & construction standards
We hold our products to the standard of what a traveller still wants to use after five years.
This means making choices that cost more in production but produce a better outcome for the customer. Full-grain leather over split leather. Solid brass or stainless hardware over zinc-alloy. Waxed linen thread over polyester. These are not small differences — they define whether a product holds up or breaks down.
Leather
Full-grain Turkish leather, vegetable-tanned or chrome-tanned depending on application. All leather is inspected for consistent grain and tensile strength before being used in production.
Hardware
Solid brass, stainless steel, or high-grade zinc alloy for all buckles, rivets, and fastenings. Hardware is tested for pull-strength and corrosion resistance before production approval.
Thread & stitching
Heavy waxed linen or polyester thread, double-stitched at all stress points. Saddle-stitch technique on hand-crafted seams. All stitching inspected for consistency and tension before dispatch.
Finishing
Edges burnished and sealed by hand. Interior linings bonded and stitched — not glued alone. All leather treated with conditioning agent before packaging to maintain suppleness during transit and storage.
The patina advantage
Full-grain leather develops a patina over time — a deepening of colour and texture that results from contact with light, oils from your hands, and the natural environment of travel. This is not wear. It is character. A Travel Detail product after two years of regular use looks better than it did when you bought it — not worse. This is the defining difference between genuine full-grain leather and corrected-grain or synthetic alternatives.
Our Promise
We stand behind every product we sell. Our commitment to quality is not just a marketing position — it is backed by a 2-year legal guarantee under EU law and a direct promise from us to you.
What we commit to
2-year legal guarantee: All products sold on travel-detail.com are covered by a 2-year legal guarantee under the EU Sale of Goods Directive 2019/771/EU. If a product develops a fault that is not the result of misuse, we will repair, replace, or refund it.
Honest product descriptions: Every material, dimension, and feature listed on our product pages is accurate. We do not use misleading photography, synthetic leather sold as genuine, or ambiguous specifications.
Transparent sourcing: Our products are made in Turkey by skilled artisans. We will always be clear about where our products come from and how they are made.
Direct support: If something goes wrong, you speak directly with our team — not a chatbot, not an outsourced call centre. We resolve issues personally.
No restocking fees: We never charge a restocking fee on returns. If a product does not meet your expectations, we will make it right.
EU consumer rights respected: Your statutory rights as a consumer in Belgium and the Netherlands are always honoured in full, including the 14-day right of withdrawal and all EU consumer protections.
A note on leather care
Full-grain leather requires occasional conditioning to maintain its suppleness and weather resistance. We include care instructions with every product and recommend using a quality leather conditioner every 3–6 months depending on frequency of use. Proper care significantly extends the life of your product and enhances the patina. If you have questions about caring for your Travel Detail product, contact us — we are happy to advise.
